Seriously, everybody imagines them being the size of cars in their heads…

 

 …but even small ones could have,
twenty men standing on their wings.
The F-16 “Fighting Falcon” in the picture (above/below) is about as small as they come.

Barring a major mess-up,
fighter jets are designed to kill each-other…

 …from as far as a hundred miles away, with-out ever physically seeing each-other.

Most fighter aircraft are capable of exceeding the speed of sound by more than TWO times…

There are no fighter jets deployed by any nation which can only attack airplanes; every single one, including the F-22 and F-15C (perhaps the most pure Air-Superiority craft flying, the Israelis bombed some stuff with them), is equipped to attack Ground targets as well.

 … And, sustain that turn until they run out of fuel.

Modern ejection seats can allow pilots to…

 

…Eject while Up-side Down at altitudes as low as 100-feet and still survive.

 

DEATILs on HOW:
The modern seats have a full suite of gyroscopic sensors which can detect many conditions of the aircraft at the moment of ejection, such as velocity and angle. Using this information, the seat can calculate which way it needs to go, and how forcefully, to give the pilot the best chance of survival and reduce the chances of injury to the pilot.

 

In the event of an upside-down ejection, the seat will fire out of the aircraft upwards, towards the ground, and then use rocket to steer it through a 180-degree turn and continue away from the ground to an altitude sufficient for another rocket to deploy the parachute.

This, of course, only really works at such low altitude if the aircraft is flying parallel to the ground, with any significant downwards velocity the seat will simply not be able to turn around and accelerate fast enough to keep the pilot from going splat. Nevertheless, modern seats are a marvel of computer technology.

The F-35 can carry almost twice the bomb load of the B-17 bomber (WW2 “Memphis Bell).
I was at an airshow and saw an F-35 and P-51 flying side-by-side. The P-51 looked like a toy airplane next to the F-15. The size difference was incredible.

I have a friend who flew F-15 and F-16. A strange fact he told me:
the F-15 holds more fuel than the weight of an F-16. Gives you an idea of their size difference.

F-16’s are big! An F-16s also somehow manages to pack 18,500-lbs of fuel into its tiny frame.
